Dornoch Fibre Fest

Exhibition of Historical Golf Wear and Tapestries

History Links Museum. The Museum will be exhibiting examples of golf wear through the years. There will be costumes on display plus illustrations of the apparel both men and lady golfers wore on the links of Scotland. The Exhibition will lead up to the the formal opening to the new Royal Dornoch Golf Club clubhouse in April. Historylinks is delighted to have items of golf clothing on loan from The World Golf Museum in St Andrews. One of the key items on display is Roger Wethered’s Captain’s jacket. Roger spent his childhood summers in Dornoch along with his sister Joyce who later became a golf professional. As children they spent many days playing golf at RDGC.
Also on loan from TWGM and The Women Golfer’s Museum is an outfit that belonged to Mabel Stringer, a visionary, golfer, sports journalist, and an early 20th century pioneer of women’s golf who stepped forward to give women a place on the golf course.
The exhibition includes a replica of an Edwardian golfing outfit worn by Ruby Grierson of Tain and a Donald Ross style suit displayed alongside his golf clubs which were gifted to the museum last year by his great niece Jane McElligott from Canada.

Tapestries created by local stitchers as part of the The Spirit of the Highlands and Islands project will be on display. A newly completed  special tapestry illustrating Dornoch wildlife, designed by  our local artist Sally Wild and created by the Dornoch Stitichers, may also been viewed.
