Helen is the owner of Ripples Crafts and is an indie dyer of some renown. She lives and works off grid in Assynt, where her hand dyed yarn reflects the landscape and is vibrant and colour saturated.
Helen is also an experienced knitter and loves to experiment with colour and form, which is the perfect foil for her yarn.
This class is an introduction to short row shaping colour work allowing you to achieve dramatic patterns and shapes within your knitting.
Helen will teach two methods of short row shaping – German Short Rows and Wrap and Turn, although the main focus will be on German Short Rows as this is an effective method in colour work and garter stitch garments.
Helen will explain how to work from the charts used in short row shaping patterns using examples in the book ‘Short Row Colorwork Knitting’ by Woolly Wormhead.
You will be working from a pattern supplied by Woolly for this class.
Colour and colour combinations will also form part of the workshop with discussion on how to choose colour combinations depending on the effect that is wanted.
Please bring: A minimum of 2 colours of yarn in an almost solid or solid shade which have good contrast. The yarn should be ready for knitting.
Please also bring the appropriately sized needles for your yarn.
