"The Tapestry Of The Highlands and Islands"

Dornoch Fibre Fest were delighted that, in conjunction with Inverness Castle Experience, they hosted an exhibition of selected panels from ‘The Tapestry of the Highlands and Islands’, on Saturday 9th March 2024.

The tapestry depicts, through its 57 panels, the vibrant history and life of the area and has been hand stitched with love by over 600 community volunteers from all over the Highlands and islands. It was a project created as part of the ‘Spirit of the Highlands and Islands’ project.

A selection of the completed tapestry panels will be exhibited within the newly transformed Inverness Castle Experience when it opens its doors as a visitor attraction in 2025. The exhibition at Fibre Fest gave visitors the opportunity of a sneak preview.

The illustrated is an example of the tapestry panels. This one has been stitched by the Sutherland Stitchers and depicts peat cutting on the Flow Country.

The tapestry panels have been designed by the renowned Scottish artist, Dr Andrew Crummy MBE. Andrew gave the Opening Talk for Fibre Fest on Friday 8th March. His talk was entitled ‘Scottish Tapestries and Beyond’.
