It can be the details that allow our knitted garments to have a pleasing, professional “handmade” finish – but instructions for achieving such finishes aren’t always included in the pattern. In this class, we will learn how to work symmetrical increases and decreases and discuss placement of shaping within the row. We will practise amending the shoulder-shaping instructions in patterns to avoid stepped, holey edges and instead use short-row shaping for a smoother, neater finish. We will then learn how to graft together both sides of the shoulder.
Participants are encouraged to bring in items and ask questions of other finishing techniques they have problems with.
Students need to bring: 3.75mm/US size 5 needles (straight or circular, whichever you prefer for
working back and forth); 4mm/US size 6 needles (straight or circular, whichever you prefer for
working back and forth); DK yarn (same as that used for the homework); Darning needle.
Knitting bag with your usual accessories.
Homework: Participants will be required to knit a small swatch, details will be sent out in advance
of the class.
