Brioche knitting is form of tuck-stitch knitting, resulting in a wonderfully textured and squishy
fabric – beautiful on its own, stunning in two colours!
During this workshop, we will learn how to combine the yarn overs and slipped stitches that form
the basis of the unique language of Brioche knitting. We’ll start working in a single colour and
then, our as confidence builds, introduce a second colour and stitch type. Once happy with these
techniques, we’ll start knitting our own brioche beanie. To complement the textural breadth of
brioche, we’ll use a tubular cast on and, by knitting the beanie in two colours, we’ll further enhance
our stitch definition to create a truly stunning, double-sided fabric.
Students need to bring: Yarn: Two contrasting colours of DK yarn. Waste yarn (smooth DK yarn a contrasting colour to those used in your main project). 4mm/US size 6 circular needle with 60-80cm/24-32” cable (we’re working back and forth, not in the round, so the cable length needs to accommodate the working stitches, but can be longer). 4 lockable stitch markers, darning needle (plus all your usual knitting accessories e.g. row counter, scissors).
